Westford has been honored with the Best Communities for Music Education designation from the NAMM Foundation for its outstanding commitment to music education.  Westford is one of 4% of districts across the nation receiving the prestigious award in 2017. 

The Best Communities for Music Education designation is awarded to districts that demonstrate outstanding achievement in efforts to provide music access and education to all students.

 

"Music education is important to the overall development of every child, and we believe strongly our comprehensive programs contribute to our children both cognitively and emotionally," said Andrea Mejia, K-12 Visual and Performing Arts Curriculum Coordinator.  "It is such an honor for Westford to receive the BCME distinction for four consecutive years."

Westford is leading the way with learning opportunities as outlined in the new federal education legislation, the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA).  ESSA recommends music and the arts as important elements of a well-rounded education for all children.

The announcement of this year's Best Communities for Music Education brings attention to the importance of keeping music education part of the school's core education for all students. It also highlights the vital role music plays in students' overall success in school.
